M20 Moveable Barrier Project Update

Dear customer,

M20 Moveable Barrier: project update

I’m writing to let you know that the Operation Brock contraflow system is due to become active at 6am on Friday 14 July 2023 ahead of the summer holidays and expected high passenger numbers. Due to its deployment, work on the M20 Moveable Barrier Scheme will need to be paused from this date until the contraflow is deactivated. We’ll notify you once we know when work on our scheme will resume.

However, we will have completed our work within the central reservation prior to Brock being deployed and so once the contraflow is removed, we’ll be putting the moveable barrier into its new home along the central reservation. Some lane closures will be still be required for us to completed the remainder of the work needed on the scheme, but the barrier will not be needed for this.

To ensure the safe deployment of the contraflow system, the M20 will be closed overnight as follows.

London-bound overnight closures

The M20 London-bound between junctions 9 and 8 will be closed overnight from:

  • 8:00pm Thursday 13 July until 6:00am Friday 14 July 2023

Diversion route: A clearly signed diversion route will be in place taking traffic along the coastbound M20, the coastbound A20 towards Dover, then along the A2, London-bound M2 and crossing back to the M20 at J7 via the A249.

Coastbound overnight closures

The M20 coastbound between junctions 7 and 9 will be closed overnight from:

  • 9:00pm Tuesday 11 July until 6:00am Wednesday 12 July 2023
  • 8:00pm Thursday 13 July until 6:00am Friday 14 July 2023

Diversion route: A clearly signed diversion route will be in place taking traffic coastbound along the A249, M2, A2, A20, then back onto the M20.

You can keep up to date with the status of Operation Brock here and if you have any questions on Brock, or the resurfacing project, please contact info@nationalhighways.co.uk.

Yours faithfully,

Gary Jeans
