The Kent Association of Local Councils (KALC) Community Award is to acknowledge and give recognition to a resident or group in Faversham who has made a significant contribution to this town over a period of years. If you know of someone who has given this sort of service and merits an Award please do nominate them. The person must live or work within the Town Council boundary.
A significant contribution to the local community could be any or all of the following:
- Long and sustained service to the community or part of it;
- Achievements or actions of an inspiring nature to the local community;
- Such other activities which have reflected credit on or brought benefits to the town or its people;
The winner will receive a certificate signed by the Chairman of the Kent Association of Local Councils and High Sheriff of Kent. The Award will be presented by the Mayor of Faversham at the Annual Town Meeting.
Only ONE nomination per resident but all adult members of the family may submit a nomination form. Completed forms are to be returned in a sealed envelope marked Community Award Nomination to:

Mary Caryer, recently retired Chair of the Arden Theatre Group, was recognised for her work to the arts in Faversham at this year’s Annual Town Meeting. Mary was among three finalists whose voluntary work for the town was acknowledged. The other nominees were Steve Sherlock, Chair of the Faversham Christmas Lights and Janet Stickles, former manager of the Pilgrims Hospice shop in West Street.
The Mayor of Faversham, Cllr Shiel Campbell, presented Mary with a certificate signed by the KALC Chair and the High Sheriff of Kent, together with a voucher for a cream tea for two, kindly donated by Belmont House and Gardens, near Throwley (www.belmont-house.org).
It was the first time that the Annual Town Meeting was supported by the many groups and charities, who had either received grants or worked in partnership with the Town Council during the past year.
Deputy Mayor of Faversham, Cllr Trevor Abram, said “It was the best attendance at a Faversham Town meeting since I was first elected six years ago. Well done residents for such a positive interest in what is done on your behalf.“
