With its thriving weekly charter markets every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, this ‘Market Town of Kings’ is the jewel in Swale’s crown and a destination you won’t want to miss out on.
A new highlight to the what’s on calendar in Faversham will be the ‘Open Faversham’ from 12th to 20th August. The Faversham Society and the Friends of St Mary of Charity have joined forces to showcase Faversham town’s built, cultural and natural heritage in August. Coordinating and promoting anticipated events and activities which celebrate the significant heritage across Faversham and perhaps in some of those nearby villages which relate to Faversham. Faversham boasts a record number of over 300 listed buildings recording its industrial past and its significant history and heritage story is told at the Fleur de Lis Museum by the Faversham Society and highlighted during ‘Open Faversham’.
Added incentives to visit Faversham by way of offers are provided by Macknade, The Alexander Centre, Mount Ephraim, Brogdale Collections, The Yarn Dispensary, Fleur Second-hand Bookshop, Huckleberry Woods micro animal adventures, Faversham Charters and Magna Carta and the Swale Tourist Information Centre at 12 Market Place where information is available on how to redeem the offers. With A New Day Festival 18th – 20th August at Mount Ephraim Gardens and the Faversham Hop Festival back once more over the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd September rounding off the summer holiday fun.
In Sittingbourne, Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway and The Light Cinema provide offers too available at the VIC for families this summer. Murston Heart are also providing FREE Summer Theatre Mondays in the grounds at Murston Heart with no need to book just turn up and tell everyone. Performances from Micky the Magician, Sonia Sabri Company, Smoking Apples and Pretending People Theatre Company. Look out for the open days at nearby Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway which are also great fun for all the family. Swale Media Arts Centre will also be running events and activities this summer.
On the Isle of Sheppey, The Criterion has plenty to offer with Kent’s sunshine island providing a traditional seaside welcome. Sheerness Town Team present a ‘Seaside Festival’ from 12th – 19th August, week of many & varied events celebrating “Sheerness” as a Seaside and ex Naval Dockyard Town. Leysdown Carnival on 29th July and Sheerness Carnival 19th August highlights. With Eastchurch Aviation Museum, Minster Abbey Gate Museum, Rose Street Cottage of Curiosities and Sheppey Little Theatre other places of interest or escape into nature at the awarding winning Elmley Nature Reserve.
