Today, on White Ribbon Day, Faversham Town Council reaffirms its commitment to ending violence against women by actively working towards White Ribbon Accreditation. This initiative underscores the Council’s dedication to fostering a community where respect and safety are paramount. Achieving White Ribbon Accreditation involves engaging with local residents, promoting awareness campaigns, and implementing policies that challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours. Through education, leadership, and partnership, Faversham Town Council aims to create lasting change, ensuring that Faversham is a place where everyone feels valued and secure. Join us in supporting the White Ribbon campaign and taking a stand against violence in all its forms.
Together we can prevent violence against women and girls. It Starts with Men. Violence against women and girls is rooted in harmful masculine traits. Starting with men, we must address the attitudes and behaviours that contribute to a fear of violence for women in their day-to-day lives. This White Ribbon Day 2024, we’re encouraging men to hold themselves accountable to women and to each other, so we can affect positive behaviour change to transform harmful cultures. Gender equality is key to making this culture change happen. Gender equality is achievable if men and boys understand and assume their responsibility as allies. We can prevent violence against women and girls. It Starts with Men.
The Mayor of Faversham, Cllr Josh Rowlands said “It is sad we still live in a world where the white ribbon campaign is needed – violence against women and girls is still all too common in our communities. The Town Council signing up to the campaign shows our commitment to working with the community of Faversham to make it a safer place, where we hope one day all women can be free from the fear of violence at the hands of men.”
