In Honour of the Fallen: Poppy Net Prepared for Remembrance Service

The poppy represents remembrance, hope, and gratitude for those who have served and sacrificed in war and conflict.

It became a symbol of Remembrance Day after the First World War, inspired by the famous poem “In Flanders Fields” by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. The bright red poppies that grew on the battlefields of Flanders came to symbolize the blood shed by soldiers, as well as the resilience of life and hope for peace.

A heartfelt thank you to the Faversham Gunpowder WI, who lovingly handmade the Poppy Net, which is proudly displayed each year within the Memorial Garden as a tribute to all who have fallen.

Thanks also to our Facilities Team for assisting with the preparations, helping to display the Poppy Net, and supporting Sunday’s Service and Parade.

Lest We Forget.
