Faversham Town Council is delighted to announce the successful transfer of a significant parcel of land at Perry Court from Barratt David Wilson Kent. The site, which includes allotments, a community orchard and community woodland, represents an exciting opportunity for the town to enhance local amenities and promote sustainability.
This transfer marks a key milestone in the development of Perry Court as a hub for recreation, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship. The community orchard and woodland will provide a peaceful retreat for residents, offering opportunities for relaxation, exercise, and connection with nature. Meanwhile, the allotments will continue to empower residents to grow their own produce, promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing food miles.
Mayor of Faversham, Cllr Josh Rowlands, welcomed the transfer, stating: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our town to expand its green spaces and strengthen our community. The land at Perry Court is a valuable asset that will benefit residents for generations to come. We’re grateful to Barratt David Wilson Kent for their collaboration and are excited to develop this site further to meet the needs of our community.”
A spokesperson for Barratt David Wilson Kent said “The demand for allotments continues to increase as more people become concerned about environmental issues and therefore we understand the vast amount of interest and eagerly awaited allotments at Perry Court. The allotments will allow residents to grow organic fruit and vegetables, plants and act as a constant source of socialising for our community. Communal open spaces are of such importance to us at Barratt David Wilson Kent as they allow our communities to flourish, so we are looking forward to the allotments’ first spring and summer and our residents’ creativity to bloom!”
The Council will work closely with local groups, volunteers, and residents to develop and maintain these spaces. Community involvement will be at the heart of this initiative, ensuring that the site’s potential is fully realised.
Cllr Claire Martin, Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Town Council’s Environment Committee said “It is wonderful news to finally have a large swathe of Perry Court green space signed over to the Council. Finally, the people on the Perry Court Allotment waiting list will be allocated an allotment and I am hopeful that the area will be used for a variety of activities over the coming years.”
Note Residents, who are on the waiting list for an allotment at Perry Court, will be contacted over the next couple of weeks.
