Faversham, A2 and A251 Road Closures – 21/07/2025 – 29/08/2025

Dear Stakeholder,

I am emailing you from Coinford Construction who are the main contractor for the Redrow Homes Preston Fields development in Faversham.

From Monday 21st July 2025 to Friday 29th August 2025, we will be undertaking works to install a rising main along the A2 Canterbury Road, Faversham and A251 Ashford Road, Faversham. The works involve excavating through the carriageway, installing a new sewer into the road with necessary testing before re-instating the carriageway.

Every option has been explored and the only safe way of carrying out these works are under a road closure; this is due to the depth of the sewer requiring a deep excavation which will need an exclusion zone to keep operatives within the excavation safe. We are working extended hours including weekends and using a vac-ex to expedite the works.

The reason the works are taking place during the summer holidays is to reduce the impact for students, there will be a slight overlap with the term-time to ensure works are completed before the schools return in September.

We are in communication with the bus operators affected by these closures, updates will be available directly from them.

Emergency services have also been notified of these closures.

For the first 4 weeks from Monday 21st July 2025, we will be closing the A2 from both directions between the traffic lights leading to the A251 and outside of the Redrow, Preston Fields Development. This is shown in the below image which captures diversion routes in place as well as the extent of the road closure.

This diversion route will take vehicles down the A251 Southbound to join the M2 where they can re-enter onto the A2. A non-motorway diversion route will be advised on site for any vehicles that cannot use the M2.

During this time, Preston Grove will be closed with no access on or off the A2. Salters Lane will also be closed at the junction with the A251, access will be maintained for the waste & recycling centre via the A2.

Operatives will be on site 24/7 to maintain access for residents that are within the closure.

Once the works have progressed to the A2/A251 permanent lights the traffic management will be amended to a lane closure on the A2 and a road closure southbound on the A251.

During the closure of the A251 southbound the below roads will also be closed:

  • Porters Lane at the junction with the A251.
  • Plumford Road at the junction with the A251.
  • Salters Lane at the junction with the A251.

These works are expected to last from Monday 18th August to Friday 29th August. Please see below areas affected with the recommended diversion route being along the M2.

Once these works have been completed, all traffic management will be removed, and all roads will be re-opened to the public.

We appreciate your understanding and patience while these works are being carried out and we apologise any inconvenience caused.

If there are any questions relating to these works, then please contact us on the below email in which we will answer all queries to the best of our ability.
