Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club

On Monday 24th August Cllr Charles Gibson, Faversham Town Council’s Armed Forces Champion was delighted to attend the Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast club at Judds Folly.

Veterans from all services were in attendance and a delicious breakfast accompanied some lively conversation on everything from Veterans medical care to housebuilding and sewerage.

Cllr Charles Gibson said, “Clubs like these can be a life line for our veterans and armed forces community and are a great way to recreate the camaraderie and banter of the mess or the NAAFI, so do go along if you are a veteran who fancies a great breakfast in great company.

The history of the AFVBC is that it was originally set up by Mr. Dereck Hardman ret RE, as he realised so many veterans were having difficulties in Civilian life as little was being done for them and little awareness of needs for those who have served in all the Services for their country. It was to encourage Veterans of all Services, all ranks, all ages, and for both men and woman, to mix, find the ‘common denominator, ie Service life and humour , that many who have never been in the Armed Forces, understand. Those who join, whatever their rank had been in any of the Forces, are Veterans, not an Officer or Private, just a Veteran. The Clubs do not charge ‘subs’, veterans only pay for their own breakfast.

One event that we hold is our Christmas Lunch here at Judd’s. We also take part in their August Fayre, and we have over time, invited Speakers to the breakfast morning on subjects that are of interest to members. We run raffles, sometimes to cover expenditure such as Flags or Banners required and at the moment we are running a raffle to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Society, as one of our members has a baby Grand-son who has been diagnosed with this debilitating disease.  We also raise funds for other Service Charities as some of our younger members compete, for instance, in running the Three Peaks Challenge, with his daughter, and one of our new members is taking part in the ‘swimathon’ at Faversham Baths, raising funds for Help the  Hero’s Charity.

If anyone who has or is serving in any Armed Forces, and wishes to join, we ask that the they look on Social Media for www.afvbc.world

Look for the nearest club. They must also ensure that they answer the three questions on the application, otherwise Admins will have to decline their application.
