Since its inception in April 2021, the Faversham & District Community Lottery has made a significant impact, generating over £150,000 for local charities, groups, and initiatives. This impressive achievement highlights the strength of community spirit and the generosity of residents in Faversham and the surrounding area. The Town Council remains totally committed to ensuring that the Faversham & District Lottery continues to operate successfully, despite the Borough Council deciding to launch its own lottery.
The Mayor of Faversham, Cllr Josh Rowlands, said “We thank all current supporters of the Faversham & District Lottery and encourage new participants to join us in sustaining this successful community initiative. Together, we can ensure that local good causes continue to thrive for years to come.
“While we wish Swale Borough Council success in their efforts to support a new community lottery, we are disappointed that it is not more appropriately named to reflect the Sittingbourne and Sheppey areas it will predominantly serve”.
Cllr Laura Coniam, Chair of the Council’s Community Committee noted “There is a risk of potential confusion among supporters as both lotteries are managed by the same external lottery provider, resulting in similar branding, including Facebook posts and other promotional materials. So, we are urging our current supporters and residents of Faversham and the surrounding villages to ensure they continue to support the Faversham & District Lottery when purchasing tickets, as this directly benefits our local good causes. We can also confirm that local good causes on the Faversham lottery do not need to register for both lotteries. In fact, you receive a bigger percentage of the ticket price through us.
