Faversham Town Council continues to champion youth engagement and community spirit by actively involving the ‘1242 Faversham Squadron Air Cadets’ and the ‘Faversham Army Cadet Force’ in a range of civic events and celebrations throughout the year.
Remembrance Day: Honour and Leadership
Each year, the Army and Air Cadets share the honour of leading the town’s Remembrance Day parade and service. Taking it in turns, members from each unit read poignant readings, lay wreaths, and stand with dignity alongside veterans and civic leaders. Their participation not only demonstrates respect for those who served but also reinforces the importance of remembrance traditions to younger generations. On social media, community members have praised the cadets’ commitment, with posts noting how proud the cadets make Faversham through their involvement and discipline.

Celebrating History at ‘Faversham in the 40s’
The popular Faversham in the 40s event — a vibrant celebration of wartime history — regularly features both Army and Air Cadets. Held in Court Street and the Market Place, the event attracts residents and visitors to experience 1940s music, dancing, reenactors, and vintage displays.
This year’s Faversham in the 40s on 14th June 2026 will also mark Armed Forces Day, and the Town Council has extended a special invitation to all cadets to take part in a short parade and flag raising ceremony — a fitting tribute to service and community spirit.
Community Presence at the Festival of Transport
Another cornerstone event is Faversham’s Festival of Transport — held this year on 16th and 17th May 2026 in the town centre. This family-friendly celebration of modern and historic vehicles, vintage buses and classic cars includes stalls where the cadets can raise awareness about their activities and fundraise.
In recent years, the Army and Air Cadets have also joined the festival’s parade around the town, performing as part of the cadet band. Their music and ceremonial contribution add to the atmosphere of community pride and celebration, drawing crowds and engaging visitors with both heritage and youth involvement.

Growing Support and Civic Partnership
Faversham Town Council’s commitment to the cadets reflects its broader pledge to support young people and honour the Armed Forces community — a commitment formally recognised through signing the Armed Forces Covenant, which includes support for UK cadet units and Armed Forces Day.
Through these events — from solemn remembrance to lively town festivals — the cadets of Faversham are given valued platforms to lead, represent and connect with their community.
