Activity Details – Everyone Can Make Art, 1st October at 10am and 1pm, Subud Hall, Century Rd, ME13. Contact Jo, tel 01795 537754, email Jo at workwithmeaning@outlook.com
If you can’t make it yourself on the 1st, you can always give your friend my landline number below/this email address, to arrange them coming on their own. I won’t do it on a first come first served, as I know some people may need to check diaries, but if you reply with a willing guest confirmation, please give your preference as a yes, maybe or no to both AM or PM sessions. That way I can hopefully fill both slots easily.
When you invite them, please tell your potential guest that my sessions are designed for quality tuition but also for psychological benefit and other aspects of health. I’m hoping they may question this: I am coming well-armed with info. As you know, social wellbeing is also a part of human health, for all age groups. Researchers have also now found that arts participation increases longevity.
It’s not always possible to attend arts activities regularly but the latest research tells us that long term participation in the arts does yield strong health results, including reducing destructive, bodily stress responses and the slowing of biological aging. During the session I’ll be doing a quick round up of where the research is currently on aging and visual art, so that everyone is left with no uncertainty about just how good it is for us all to do.
No need for your guest to bring any materials. As these sessions are person centred, I’ll be setting a (small) choice of activities in case anyone has aversion to a particular material or subject matter. There may be some potential guests who are fearful of trying art. That’s good, because as you know I’m interested both in offering the challenge of growth mindset and by also helping people to reduce ‘thinking errors’, for example, ‘I can’t do art’. This is just not true – we all can. If you’re thinking you can’t do art, then what else are you thinking you can’t do in life?
Thoughts like these are with people who especially need to try to increase their arts participation. Even if they have no intention of coming again, it helps massively to bust the myth that you can, rather than cannot do stuff you might fear or feel negative about. Opinions like this encourage negative thought patterns, which can become habitual and even in minor ways, are psychologically damaging and totally unnecessary. Success can happen quickly sometimes and as a surprise.
Please mention to your guest that there are stairs at Subud Hall, Century Rd, ME13 8DP. I look forward to meeting you or your guest on the 1st October or at an art taster session here at a later date, if that one isn’t suitable. Learning sessions are open to everyone virtually every week in the lovely Subud Hall at £22 on a pay as you learn basis. So why not come along soon, to make art and craft yourself.
