May is Active Walking Month, the perfect time to get outside, get moving, and explore Faversham on foot! Whether you’re a regular walker or just starting out, there’s something for everyone.

WONDERFUL WALKS
There are lovely walks in and around Faversham which are suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Here are some recommendations for local routes you can explore.
Gentle strolls
Faversham Lakes Country Park, Stoving Lane, ME13 7TX
Explore the wildlife of Faversham’s local marshes with an easy amble around the circular walks at Faversham Lakes. Footpaths are wide and flat with plenty of benches to rest. Dog friendly.
Faversham Recreation Ground, Park Road, ME13 8EU
The perfect spot to walk, jog or cycle and the wide paths are wheelchair friendly too. There are two playgrounds for children of all ages and a refreshment kiosk.
Oare Gunpowder Walks, Western Link, ME13 7UD
Nature reserve packed with wildlife for visitors to enjoy whilst learning the history of Oare’s gunpowder production. Plenty of parking and well-made paths, suitable for wheelchairs when dry.

Faversham Town walks
Follow three self-guided town walks, complete with beautifully illustrated leaflets featuring maps and directions. Learn about Faversham’s gunpower past and fascinating history. The perfect way to get out and about and discover fascinating Faversham.

The Gunpowder Trail
Faversham may have been the first place in England to make gunpowder, and on this town walk you can learn all about Faversham’s fascinating history of gunpowder.
The walk begins and ends at the Fleur de Lis Heritage Centre, where you can discover yet more fascinating facts in the Gunpowder Room at the Fleur de Lis Museum, which tells the story of Faversham from the stone age to the 20th century.
This is a walk that can be done any time of year, in any weather and maps are available for download at the link below, or you can pick up a hard copy from the Visitor Information Centre in the Market Place.

The History Trail
This town walk has been designed to give you a ‘flavour of Faversham’, the oldest market town in Kent and mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
The walk begins at the Fleur de Lis Heritage Centre, and before setting off you may chose to explore this fascinating museum full of surprises and delights from Faversham’s rich history.

The West to East Trail
This is a walk that will take you through Faversham from West to East passing some fascinating and interesting places en route that are often missed.
Starting at the West Faversham Community Centre, the walk finishes at the site of the mass grave and memorial to the men killed in 1916 in The Great Explosion at a local munitions factory.

Faversham nature trails
Those wishing to explore further afield can follow one of Faversham’s Nature Trails – a series of eight walks around Faversham’s countryside, of varying length and difficulty. Each walk embraces a different characteristic of rural Faversham, taking in boatyards & creeks, orchards & farmland, wildlife havens and routes steeped in history. You can download the eight trails using the link Nature Trails – Faversham Town Council or collect from 12 Market Place. Each trail guide comes with a map, helpful photos and simple instructions.
GUIDED WALKS
Macknade to Boughton Guided Walk (£7.00)
2nd May, 9.15am – 3pm 10 miles, starts Faversham Train Station
car park, ME13 7LF. Beautiful walk through Boughton, Herne Hill
and Goodnestone, taking in orchards, farmland, historic villages
and quiet country lanes. Organised by Boots on Adventures.

Cross Town Tree Guided Walk
4th May, 10.30am – 11.45am starts at Wallers Road/Lower Road
intersection, ME13 7PL. Gentle one-way walk, learning about
Faversham’s wide variety of trees. Finishing at the Recreation
Ground. Organised by The Faversham Society.
North Faversham Countryside Guided Walk
10th May, 10am – 1pm 5 miles, starting from Stonebridge Pond,
ME13 7JZ. Scenic walk through Bysing Wood and onwards
across fields and along quiet country lanes towards Luddenham
and Oare, returning via Davington. Organised by Faversham
Footpaths Group.
DadSpace Meet Up
13th May, 7pm – 9pm meet at Faversham Rugby Club, Faversham
Rec, ME13 8EU. Short walk and relaxed space to connect with other
local dads. Free of charge. Organised by DadSpace Faversham.

Late Victorian Faversham Guided Walk
14th May, 5pm – 6.30pm meeting at 12 Market Place, ME13
7AE. Note, this walk includes a bridge with 30 steps. Organised
by The Faversham Society.

East to West Faversham Guided Walk
17th May, 2.30pm – 4pm meet in front of the Lodge at the
Recreation Ground, ME13 8EU. Explore Faversham’s history from
across the centuries. Organised by The Faversham Society.

Oare Marshes to Luddenham Guided Walk (£7.00)
20th May, 10am – 1.30pm 7 miles, starts Ham Road Car Park,
ME13 7EL. Circular walk through Oare and Luddenham, exploring
beautiful shorelines, creekside habitats and historic landscapes.

ACTIVE CYCLING MONTH

June is Active Cycling Month, the perfect time to get outside, get moving, and explore Faversham by bike! Whether you’re a confident cyclist or just getting started, there’s something for everyone.
Discover local cycling routes around Faversham, enjoy the fresh air, boost your wellbeing, and see the town from a whole new perspective. Cycling is a fun and active way to travel while exploring your local area.
GET ON YOUR BIKE!
Go route one!
The National Cycle Route 1 comes through Faversham. It links Faversham with Sittingbourne where you can join route 174 to the Isle of Sheppey. In the other direction, it heads towards Seasalter and Canterbury. You can pick up Route 1 as it comes into Faversham on Bysing Wood Road, or as it leaves via Abbey Fields.
Poplars, Pines and Pedals
This 13 mile cycle ride is a hilly adventure from Faversham to Perry Woods in Selling. Perry Woods is popular amongst cyclists of all ages with plenty of bridle ways, plus cycle parking at the Rose and Crown Pub, ME13 9RY.

U3A Faversham Cycling Group
Friendly cycle group, meets 11am every Monday and Wednesday in Aldred Road, ME13 8QQ. Group cycles on quiet lanes along the
coast or inland to village cafes, usually around 8 miles each way, or 13 miles each way for the more adventurous. Perfect for electric assist bikes, meaning riders can go faster and further.

Faversham Family Bike Ride returns!

Looking for a fun, active way to kick off summer?
The Faversham Family Bike Ride 2026 is the perfect excuse to dust off your bike and enjoy a fantastic day out with family and friends.
Take part in this years’ Family Bike Ride on Sunday 31st May 10am start, this much-loved community event invites riders of all ages and abilities to take on a relaxed 12.5 km route through the beautiful countryside on a circular route past Belmont House and Golf Club with a halfway drinks station.
Starting and finishing at The Abbey School, the ride is designed to be accessible, making it ideal for beginners, families with children, and seasoned cyclists alike. So, get the kids off those screens and blow off some steam in the great outdoors!
Organised by the Rotary Club of Faversham, the event is now in its fifth successful year and continues to bring the community together for great local causes. Every pedal helps support local charities, so you can feel good while having fun.
Expect a friendly atmosphere, well-marked routes with volunteer marshals and plenty of support along the way. Whether you’re riding solo, with friends, or as part of a family team, it’s all about getting involved and enjoying the journey.
So grab your helmet, hop on your bike, and join the fun – Faversham countryside is waiting to be explored on two wheels!
