Description
The Swale Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) is a network of local organisations, businesses, community groups and individuals who are passionate about making Swale a more dementia-friendly place to live, work and visit.

Dementia Action Alliances bring people together to raise awareness of dementia, reduce stigma, and improve the wellbeing and quality of life of people living with dementia and those who care for them. The movement is supported across Kent through the Kent Dementia Action Alliance.

The Swale DAA was formed from three local alliances in Faversham, Sittingbourne and Sheppey which came together during the pandemic to create a single borough-wide group. Today our members include representatives from the public, private and voluntary sectors, alongside people living with dementia and family carers.

Partners include Kent County Council, Faversham Town Council, Swale Borough Council, Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Services, Age UK Sheppey, Age Concern Gillingham, No Place Like Home, Bright Shadow, Kent Police, Citizens Advice, Care UK, Swale Community Leisure, Lighthouse Carers Group and many other local organisations.

Working to Become Dementia Friendly.

One of our key priorities is promoting Kent’s Working to Become Dementia Friendly recognition scheme.

The scheme helps local businesses, organisations and community groups make simple changes that can have a significant impact on the experiences of people living with dementia. It is free to join and supported by Dementia Action Alliance volunteers across Kent. Organisations that successfully complete the process can display the Working to Become Dementia Friendly symbol, demonstrating their commitment to providing a welcoming, understanding and supportive environment.

If your organisation would like to become involved, please register your interest through the Kent Dementia Action Alliance website: Kent Dementia Action Alliance.

Events and Activities
The Swale DAA supports and promotes a range of dementia-friendly activities throughout the year. This includes local awareness-raising events, support groups, community activities and information sessions.

Over the years we have organised initiatives such as Dementia: Ask the Experts, bringing together professionals, community organisations and people affected by dementia to share information, answer questions and showcase available support. The group also supports and promotes the annual Dementia Friendly Kent Awards, which celebrate individuals, organisations and communities making a positive difference for people living with dementia.

Get Involved

Anyone with an interest in making Swale more dementia friendly is welcome to join us. Whether you are a local resident, business, voluntary organisation or public service, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.

The Swale Dementia Action Alliance meets at least four times a year, either online or in person, and new members are always welcome.
