Abbey Physic Community Garden

At the Abbey Physic Community Garden, we aim to help people improve their physical and mental health and well-being. Over the last 30 years, we have encouraged people to build skills and confidence, reduce loneliness, and connect with their community. We aim to break down the stigma of mental ill health and build understanding and empathy?

We use our organically grown ingredients in our kitchen to create nourishing and affordable meals (Mon-Fri).

Our Coffee Cabin is open every day for cups of tea and coffee and our volunteers are always up for a chat!

Our Men’s Shed is about building friendships, whilst gaining confidence and woodworking skills in a relaxed environment.

We are an award-winning garden maintained by volunteers. In the garden, you will find inspiration and examples of permaculture gardening.

We run a series of 6-week courses throughout the year. If you are interested in attending please get in touch. Our courses are usually free to our members and no prior skills are needed.

Gardening For The Mind

A well-being and mindfulness course that supports us to explore and connect with self and nature through practical and fun activities using the senses.

Hands-On Gardening

A practical hands-on gardening course that covers the basics in gardening processes and maintenance while supporting you to experience the therapeutic benefits of gardening.

The Mindful Kitchen

A practical course that focuses on mindful eating and mindful cooking, learning about nourishing our minds and bodies while making delicious meals using fresh ingredients picked from our garden.

Community Kitchen Training

A practical training course that covers the basics of food hygiene and safety while supporting you to gain experience and confidence in a working kitchen.

There is a huge range of activities that happen in the garden including:

  • Arts and craft groups
  • Martial Arts
  • Meditation
  • Walking groups
  • Poetry

Check our socials or pop in to see our up-to-date weekly schedule.

You can also always find a calm quiet spot in the garden to unwind from the stresses of daily life.

We couldn’t exist without our fantastic team of volunteers who help with everything from

gardening, to cooking, to running the coffee cabin. We are always looking for people to join us so please do get in touch if you are interested!

We are also a member led organisation. For £15 per year you can become a member and support the garden. Your membership makes the Garden what it is. It gives you a voice at our AGM

and allows you to join in with all the groups and activities.
