In 2020, Town Councillors gave the go ahead for a community lottery to help raise funds for local charities and community organisations. The pandemic, lockdown and resulting economic dislocation have made fundraising difficult for many local community venues, events and services. Councillors are keen to make sure that the Town Council does what it can to help local organisations renew themselves in the future.
A wide range of voluntary and community organisations were invited to get involved, including arts, culture and recreation providers. Our initial market research has confirmed that organisations have found it difficult to fundraise in the last few months and that their income has declined – 85% of organisations responding to our latest survey have said they would be interested in participating in a community lottery.
The lottery went live in April 2021 and we now have over 50 local good causes participating in the Lottery and raising over £38,000 a year. It’s not too late for your community group to join too. Please see the website for more details.
You can also help your community and support your favourite local good cause by signing up to the weekly lottery for just £1 a week. We have already seen our first jackpot winner, taking over £25,000 and we can’t wait to see our second! It could be you. For more information and to sign up go to the website.
