Spring is here, and it’s time to get planting! Weβre thrilled to announce our Faversham Sunflower Growing Competition, where gardeners of all ages can put their green thumbs to the test. Whether you’re a seasoned grower or a first-time planter, this challenge is for everyone who loves a bit of friendly competition and the joy of watching sunflowers bloom!
The competition will start on 1st April 2025 and close on 31st July 2025.
The competition is open to all residents in the Faversham Town Council boundary area living in Abbey, Priory, St Ann’s, and Watling Wards.
There are three categories:
- Grown in the Ground
- Grown in a Pot
- Primary School
The tallest sunflower in each category will win a yearβs Brogdale Family Orchard Pass
How to Enter:
- Collect your free seeds envelope and an entry form from any of the following venues: Faversham Visitor Information Centre, 12 Market Place, Faversham, ME13 7AE The Alexander Centre, 15 – 17 Preston Street, Faversham, Kent, ME13 8NZ Faversham Umbrella, Court Street, Faversham, Kent, ME13 7AT West Faversham Community Centre, Bysing Wood Road, Faversham, Kent, ME13 7RH or at the Spring Fair at St Mary’s Church on Saturday 19th April 2025 between 10am-2pm.
- Plant your sunflower seeds and give them plenty of love, sunlight, and water.
- Document the progress of your sunflower with pictures and updates using the hashtag #FavSF25 on social media.
- Submit your entry form with final measurements and a photo by 31st July 2025.
Tips for Growing the Best Sunflower:
- Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil.
- Keep your sunflower well-watered, especially during hot days.
- Support taller sunflowers with stakes to prevent them from toppling over.
- Protect them from birds and pests with netting if needed.
