M20 Moveable Barrier: Overnight Closure Notification

Dear Stakeholder,

M20 Moveable Barrier: overnight closure notification

I’m writing to introduce myself as the new project manager for the M20 Moveable Barrier scheme and to let you know of some upcoming overnight road closures.

London-bound carriageway closures

To carry out some survey work ahead of switching to the London-bound verge phase of works, the M20 London-bound between junctions 9 and 8 will be closed from 8:00pm on Saturday 12 November until 6:00am on Sunday 13 November 2022.

Diversion route: a clearly signed diversion route along the A20 will be in place. Over-height vehicles should use the A2, M2 and A249.

Coastbound carriageway closures

To protect the travelling public and our workforce while we carry out drainage installation at certain points within the central reservation, we’ll be installing further sections of the temporary safety barrier. This work will be noisier than our usual work. To carry out this work safely, the M20 coastbound between junctions 7 and 9 will be closed from 8:00pm on Sunday 13 November until 6:00am on Monday 14 November 2022.

Diversion route: traffic will be diverted off the M20 at junction 6 to connect with the A229, where drivers will be directed to use the A229 northbound to the M2 junction 3 where they’ll head eastbound along the M2 to junction 7. Traffic will then travel eastbound along the A2 to Dover Docks. Once in Dover, traffic will be directed to the London-bound A20 and on to the M20, where the diversion will end at M20 junction 10.

We’ll let you know in advance when we’re closing the road overnight. Very occasionally we’re unable to give you notice – that’s normally when work is safety critical and urgent. We may also need to cancel work or change the date if there’s bad weather or any other unplanned event. You can check the National Highways closure report which is updated daily with the latest information: https://nationalhighways.co.uk/travel-updates/daily-closure-report/.

You can also find all the latest information on our Twitter feed, Facebook page, and the traffic information pages of our website at https://nationalhighways.co.uk/travel-updates/.

Thank you for your cooperation whilst we carry out this work.

Yours faithfully,

Gary Jeans
